MUSEO DEL CAMPO

EXHIBITION: X
In our Mirador neighborhood in Puerto Peñasco (aka Rocky Point), Sonora, Mexico, I met a nice young man named Porfirio. For reasons that make little sense, I've always referred to him as "X," pronouncing it in the English manner: Ecks. He does hundreds of "murals" --- more graffiti than well-designed compositions in a distinctive, spontaneous, and expressionistic style ---, all over the area, sometimes invited but most often not. How and when we met, I cannot tell you, but I have recently explored his ever-changing work, photographed it, invented a gallery/museum for it, and created a little book about all this.
Available in print from Lulu.com, "Exhibition: X"'s "author"/curator --- not mentioned on the cover --- is me, Becky Hendrick. The small profit from any sales will go directly to X.
The book has several chapters and themes: the exhibition, the individual pieces, the context of Puerto Peñasco and the Mirador, my meeting with X and his particular environment, and the original appearance of his ever-changing sculptural assemblages. A few examples appear below.

THE BIG PICTURE
Puerto Peñasco is known as Arizona's Beach, and --- as Rocky Point --- was developed by travelers from the near-northern USA as a place to fish. Home to thousands of permanent and temporary expats, it houses rich, poor, and many folks, both local and visiting, in between the extremes.
