In 1911, Arkansas defined Negro as anyone ‘who has… any negro blood whatever.’ In 1924, Virginia passed a law defining a white person as ‘one who has no trace whatsoever of any blood other than Caucasian.’ Alabama defined a black person as anyone with ‘a drop of negro blood,’ and, as
recently as 1983, Louisiana had a law on the books setting the boundary at ‘one-thirty-second Negro blood.’
